Embedded C/C++ Software Engineer Role

Cabot Communications Ltd is a market-leading force in the Digital TV industry, designing DVB middleware components for the next generation Digital TVs, PVRs and set-top-boxes for consumer-electronics manufacturers world-wide. We develop platform-independent software, predominantly in C++, with an emphasis placed on software designs and architecture that are extendable, testable and easily maintained.

 

We deploy our products on many different silicon platforms used in the DVB market, and we are looking for an embedded software engineer to join our highly skilled software team in Bristol for a permanent position.

 

Required skills:

  • High C++ and C competence.
  • Object Oriented software design experience
  • Experience of embedded software development using various targets, compilers and OSs
  • Multi-threaded systems and RTOS experience
  • Good problem-analysis and problem-solving skills

 

Preferred but not essential skills:

  • DVB-T/S/C/T2 knowledge at receiver or head-end
  • Digital Visual Entertainment Technologies (e.g. DLNA, HbbTV, VoD, DRM)
  • TCP/IP based systems (e.g. IP Streaming, RTP, RTSP)
  • HTML, CSS, Javascript, or other Web Technologies
  • Ability to understand and work with ETSI, ISO and DVB specifications
  • Aware of Agile / eXtreme Programming (XP) methods

 

General Characteristics:

  • Willingness to travel and provide on site support to customers in short notice

  • Shows initiative: able to work unsupervised.

 

Qualifications:

  • Good technical degree (or equivalent) in software engineering, computer science, electronics or related discipline.
