Cabot to Showcase HD Functionality for Pan-European DVB Software Suite at IBC 2006
Aug 15, 2006
Cabot Communications, the specialist digital TV software supplier, will announce new High Definition (HD) functionality for its Aurora pan-European DVB middleware suite at IBC 2006. This will enable OEMs to use a single software platform to develop digital TV devices that support both terrestrial and satellite HD in European markets. Cabot will also announce several industry initiatives, including a major project to promote the MHEG standard across Europe and drive the next generation of consumer experience using MHEG-5.
In addition, Cabot will showcase a number of new enhancements to Aurora, including:
- The addition of DVB-C capability, enabling Aurora to support every traditional home Digital TV medium so manufacturers can deploy a single middleware platform for cable, digital terrestrial and satellite broadcasts
- Updated DVR features, including the addition of dual record functionality
- The integration of eCAS systems Cryptoworks and Conax CAS7, to provide manufacturers with a secure embedded solution for Pay TV services
- Fully compliant MHEG-5 v.1.06 functionality
Bob Lamb, Managing Director of Cabot Communications, commented: "HD is spreading throughout Europe - Germany, France, Italy and the Netherlands already have, or are about to launch, HD services. The premium prices commanded by HD equipment and the high level of consumer demand make HD an attractive prospect for manufacturers. By adding HD functionality to Aurora, as well as enhancements for interactive, cable and pay TV services, Cabot can enable manufacturers to quickly develop cost effective products for the pan-European market using a single modular software platform."
