Aurora Integrated DVB Solution

Aurora Integrated DVB Solution

Aurora has been designed and tested to address the complex requirements of divergent digital television markets. The Aurora suite is based upon worldwide DVB standards and includes complex functionality which enables it to support deployment throughout Europe as well as emerging digital markets such as Australia, Russia, India and New Zealand.

With global support under continuous development, the single middleware stack fully supports country and region specific profiles and local receiver specifications, including multiple languages, Electronic Programme Guides (EPGs), parental ratings, channel ordering, subtitles and software update mechanisms.

Aurora is a complete DVB middleware solution, enabling manufacturers to drive down development costs and supply functionally rich products to the marketplace ahead of the competition.

Market leading modular architecture

Aurora has been developed to provide everything that manufacturers need to build digital television devices for every digital transmission network, in one fully integrated and optimised DVB solution.  The Aurora suite has been designed to be completely scalable.  Its unique modular architecture allows functionality to be added or reduced without further porting effort, based on market and cost requirements.  This enables manufacturers to build low-cost, functional receivers using the standard Aurora suite, through to high-end fully featured receivers with Digital Television Recorder (DTR) functionality using the Aurora XT suite.

Aurora’s middleware modules comprise:

  • Eclipse: A core ‘zapper’ stack which supports every digital transmission network: DVB-S, DVB-T and DVB-C
  • Gemini: An advanced variant of the Eclipse DVB core which enables the provision of complex DTR functionality
  • Mercator: An award winning MHEG-5 v1.06 engine which provides a robust, platform-independent environment for the implementation of interactivity in digital television.  It enables broadcasters to provide interactive features such as electronic programme guides, news and weather services, home shopping, interactive advertising and games
  • Callisto: An Over Air Download (OAD) plug-in which enables secure upgrades to be carried out for receivers in any country which supports SSU, Advanced SSU or the UK D-Book.
  • Hercules: A Common Interface (CI) plug-in which enables manufacturers to provide support for multiple encrypted pay-TV channels
  • Chamaeleon: A fully featured reference User Interface (UI) that can be supplied as source code.  Chamaeleon can also be used in conjunction with the Observatory PC Development Studio which enables manufacturers to build, test and simulate customised DVB UI applications within a highly productive Windows development environment
