Cabot’s Conditional Access (CA) solutions are available as part of a fully integrated middleware solution or as Common Interface component plug-ins to support operator markets.
They have been designed and tested to offer accelerated time to market for all leading Conditional Access solutions for all DVB broadcast networks: cable, satellite and terrestrial. In addition, Cabot’s CA solutions provide easy integration through standardised interfaces and components, therefore substantially reducing engineering time and effort.
Embedded Conditional Access
Cabot maintains close working relationships with key semiconductor partners in order to ensure interoperability between Cabot software and the very latest Conditional Access systems. The following systems are currently supported:
- Conax
- Cryptoworks
- Irdeto
- Mediaguard
Further solutions are under development as part of Cabot’s continuous technological development roadmap.
CI/CI+
Hercules and Keystone are comprehensive CI and CI+ solutions respectively. Hercules provides the core CI functionality providing compatibility with CI compliant modules, allowing users to view protected content. Keystone builds on Hercules, adding support for the latest CI+ compliant modules, providing an enhanced security system which uses key exchange cryptography to protect content across unsecured data links. The data itself is encrypted with triple-DES or AES-128 algorithms using keys that cycle periodically. This protects the high value content broadcasters want to offer viewers and means that at no stage in the broadcast, from transmission to display, is unencrypted content accessible.
For customers who already have a middleware solution, Hercules and Keystone are available as plug-in modules. The receiver stack only needs to implement a high level interface layer, known as INCA. Hercules is also available as a stand alone product from Keystone when CI+ is not required.
As part of Cabot’s continuous development roadmap, Cabot maintains close working relationships with CAM manufacturers such as SmarDTV, Neotion and SMiT in order to ensure interoperability between Hercules, Keystone and the very latest modules on the market.
Digital Rights Management (DRM)
DRM is focused specifically at IP based solutions and is typically operator specific, offering a ‘walled garden’. Cabot will commence initial integration of a reference DRM system Q4 2009.
